Meta fires employees for misusing $25 meal credits on non-food items, as the company enforces stricter guidelines amidst its ongoing growth.
Meta ($META) has fired several employees for misusing their $25 meal credits, which were provided for breakfast, lunch, and dinner as a bonus for working at the conglomerate. Some individuals were using the credits to purchase non-food items such as toothpaste and laundry detergent. Nearly 30 staff members in the Los Angeles office were let go after being caught using the credits to fund grocery and cosmetic purchases outside the company's guidelines. Many of these employees were reportedly earning six-figure salaries, according to an anonymous tip.
Meta provides free meals at its larger offices, while employees who do not have access to those offices receive meal credits for use through apps like Grubhub. Recently, it was discovered that some employees were using the credits to purchase other goods on these apps, including wine glasses, laundry detergent, and toothpaste. Although staff were warned about this issue, some continued the practice, and those who did not comply were dismissed.
A Meta spokesperson said, "Today, a few teams at Meta are making changes to ensure resources are aligned with their long-term strategic goals and location strategy." Meta is currently trading at an all-time high, and many investors are closely monitoring the stock as the election season approaches.
