The costs of running a restaurant has not been declining. A new restaurant chain in NYC is now outsourcing their staff to the Philippines, utilizing digital screens with contractors on zoom taking orders and greeting customers. The minimum wage in NYC is now $16 per hour. However in Asia the hourly pay is close to $4. The ramen restaurant is leveraging a company called Happy Cashier that connects these digital hostesses to restaurants.

Walking into the Ramen restaurant a large digital screen is present with an individual online to greet you. Many customers enjoyed the uniqueness of the experience, while many are concerned for the jobs this potentially would take away from many hostesses. NYC restaurants are jumping onto this “trend” and taking advantage of Happy Cashier and the cost savings.
