The NYSE has announced plans to extend after-hours trading to compete with round-the-clock financial market platforms. Pending regulatory approval, the NYSE’s electronic platform, Arca, could soon be accessible for 22 hours a day. This change would accommodate individuals who work during regular trading hours and want to place trades after they get home.

Extending the trading window would also help keep users on the Arca platform, moving money through New York’s exchange rather than shifting to platforms like Robinhood. However, many companies are concerned about this potential development, as it would require additional staffing for late-night trading, especially in case of large price changes that can occur outside normal business hours.
